... Heavy Snow Warning in effect from midnight tonight to 12 PM
EST Friday...
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has upgraded the
Winter Storm Watch to a Heavy Snow Warning, which is in effect
from midnight tonight until 12 PM EST Friday.
Double-barrelled low pressure system will affect the region
beginning Thursday night. One area of low pressure will approach
the region from the west and weaken as it moves toward southern
Canada. A second low is forecast to form off the North Carolina
coast and moves northeast. This low will rapidly intensify as it
heads out to sea.
With cold air already in place over the region, the precipitation
will fall as snow across the area. The snow should begin after
midnight and continue through the morning, before ending. Snow
accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are expected with this event.
If you must travel late tonight into Friday morning, use extreme
caution. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Continue to stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio all hazards or your
favorite media source for further information.
A Heavy Snow Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast
that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If
you must... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.
