Only owned one so far, and that would be the 01' XC 600. I have nothing but good things to say about that sled, and it was my pleasure being it's mate for 4 years. As w/ all good thing, it has come to'n end to upgrade to a 06' Fusion 600 Dragon. I can only hope this new sled will out perform the XC and I'll be one happy sappy campy...or is that camper ???

By far the best model EVER from Polaris was the Indy 500 model. From 1989 -year 2006 the same fuji power plant is being used.72 hp piston ported twin 38mm carbs. The Indy 500 was SLED OF THE YEAR for 4 years running.Thatas gotta be by far the best Psled

          XSNOMAN- Polaris never made a 97 xc700.
They made the new 97 indy 700 rmk /sks only and a 680 ultra.

The Indy 500 has been a very popular sled for Polaris.

The 488 liguid was actually based of the 1978 340 cross country indy. Almost the same bottom end. Then came the 400lq. The 500 cylinders will slap right on the 400 cases.

The best sled made by Polaris

I would have to say for speed (stock) would have been the 98' XC700.
But each year they do a better job with performance. By far I have riden many sleds and that is my pick for performance.

Heres' a list of the production 97 sleds.
Unless you has a limited built xc700,it wont beon the list. I had a 99xcr440sp limited built. what a piece of crap. The bulkhead and tunnel kept cracking. I installed a 98xc700 big block w/ 2000rmk pipe and WOW did it go like crazy.
Do you have any pics of the 97 xc7? I would love to see a limited built big block.
