First off, you are comparing the weight of a 500cc machine to that of a 600cc machine.

The new RMK has a 155 inch by 2.5 inch series 5 track, the M-5 is shorter and has less paddle size.
M-5 is a Cat and RMK is a Polaris.
I doubt that any sled MFGs claimed weights are totally correct.
and who rides a sled dry (with no fuel, oil, or coolant)

It's just 2 totally different sleds in 2 different classes made by 2 different MFGs.
          There will be differences.

I got to ride the 2007 RMK last week and must admit that I am totally impressed.

I actually made the desision that if Polaris puts the FST motor in this chassis that I am going to buy one in the fall and mod the crap out of it.

Other wise, I'm going to have to buy the model I rode and mod it.

I think you are mistaken about the quality of this motor.
120 ponies in a little 600 twin is really good. At the Polaris dealership that I used to work at, they have had less issues with the 600 HO than most any I can think of. And I am down there regularly and also drink beers with their head mech regularly. I hear about the issues that people are having regularly as well as the individule ones, and I can assure you that this is a rock solid power plant with NO issues coming out of it.
